GSvle - Dala / Gavle-Dala 0-8-0 Locomotives in Sweden

Class Details by Steve Llanso of Sweat House Media

Class N3/G10 (Locobase 20389)

Data from Litt G10, one of a series of SJ locomotive diagrams archived by Anders Lundbing on [link], last accessed 30 June 2018 (Snabcon AB advertised its tools for mounting RJ45 connectors on bundled cables.) and Tommy Nilsson's Svenska-lok.se website at Svenska-lok.se, last accessed 21 June 2018. Falun works numbers were302-303 in 1921, 348-349 in 1928, and 358-359 in 1930.

Continuing the construction of all-adhesion eight-coupleds for the GDJ, the Swedish Railways shops at Falun supplied this sextet over a nine-year period. They had considerably more heating surface and superheater area than the earlier engines.

Nilsson noted that the short GDJ turntables dictated a small, two-axle tender. They were known as rough riders and had a maximum speed of 50 kph (31 mph).

Both were retired in 1957 and sold in 1970.

Class N3/G9 (Locobase 20388)

Data from Litt G9, one of a series of SJ locomotive diagrams archived by Anders Lundbing on [link], last accessed 30 June 2018 (Snabcon AB advertised its tools for mounting RJ45 connectors on bundled cables.) and Tommy Nilsson's Svenska-lok.se website at Svenska-lok.se, last accessed 21 June 2018. NOHAB works numbers were 995-996 in 1912.

Four years after Nohab delivered the second pair of N3s, it supplied a third pair that carried six more tubes of slightly greater diameter and fewer flues (of larger diameter, however). These engines remained relatively unchanged throughout their long working lives.

Both were retired in 1957 and sold in 1970.
