Class 5 Gerlos (Locobase 9687)

Data from [link], last accessed 26 November 2008.

This was the bigger, younger brother of the classic Krauss radial tank design. Locobase 4642 shows the original version, which was produced in the early 1900s as a cross-compound locomotive with a saturated boiler. This particular engine was Krauss Linz works #1521 and was equipped from the outset with a superheater. Rated at 40 kmh/h (25 mph), the locomotive clearly was intended for industrial work.

Lovingly cared for in museum service, this engine received a new steel firebox from Tschuda in Graz in 2001. Tschuda also supplied the new boiler in 2005.
