Class Details by Steve Llanso of Sweat House Media

Class Ec 4/5 (Locobase 8048)

Data from [link] . Like the Ec 3/5s bought at around the same time, this sextet was divided into three 2-locomotive buys for three closely linked railways. 11-12 (works # 1190-1191) went to the Thunerseebahn (TSB). The next pair, numbered 13-14 (works #1336-1337) were delivered in 1901 to the SpiezvFrutigenvBahn (SFB). In 1902, the Erlenbach-Zweisimmen-Bahn (EZB) took 15-16 (works #1441-1442).

The Consolidation tanks were von Borries compounds with the HP cylinder on the left (driver) side, the LP on the right. Tonnage ratings were 280 tons up a 1 1/2% grade at 20 km/h (12 mph).

After the Swiss system was largely electrified in the early 1920s, the Austrian BB+ took in the six locomotives, putting #11 in its 379 class because it had been superheated in the interim. and grouping the other 5 in its 279 class.
