Class 33.01 (Locobase 1606)

Data from "3301 to 3310" at Trains of Turkey website, at [link], last accessed 27 October 2018. See also A[nthony] E[dward] Durrant, The Steam Locomotives of Eastern Europe (Newton Abbot:David & Charles, 1966); and [link]. . (13 January 2004). Henschel works numbers 15636-15645. Renumbered TCDD 33.01-10

"[A] typical German industrial/light railway type" supplied to the Turkish Military by its ally.

Class 33.011 (Locobase 1610)

Data from A[nthony] E[dward] Durrant, The steam locomotives of Eastern Europe (Abbot Newton: David & Charles, 1966).

40-45 arrived in 1889 and 46-47 a year later. Works numbers were 3510-3511 in 1889, 3641-3642 in 1890. All went into Turkish State Railways service as 33.011-018.

Class 33.11 (Locobase 1607)

Data from [link] (accessed 17 June 2003).

[link]. . (13 Jan 2004) supplies the Nohab works numbers 1813-1822.

Class 33.51 (Locobase 1608)

Data from the Trains of Turkey website at [link], last accessed 27 October 2018. See also A[nthony] E[dward] Durrant, The Steam Locomotives of Eastern Europe (Newton Abbot:David & Charles, 1966); and [link]. . (13 January 2004), which says the works numbers were 3166-3170

Built for SCP, taken into TCDD as 33.51-55.

Came in right on the cusp of locomotive design, unsuperheated and slide valves, but driven by Walschaerts valve gear.

Class 33.901 (Locobase 1612)

Data from "33901 to 33950" on the Trains of Turkey website at [link] (originally accessed 16 January 2004, last 31 August 2024).

These small locomotives ran on Sarikamis to Erzurum line, which covered about 160 km (100 miles) in Eastern Anatolia. Their origin in Russia led to the nickname Kalominkas in Turkey.

In addition to the outsized cab (to fit human adults in a very small locomotive), these engines had unusual two-part steam domes that were joined by a ring several inches above the boiler.

Class 33.951 (Locobase 1613)

Data from "33951 to 33986" at Trains of Turkey website, at [link], last accessed 27 October 2018. see also A[nthony] E[dward] Durrant, The Steam Locomotives of Eastern Europe (Newton Abbot:David & Charles, 1966). Works numbers 56324-56392 in 1916; 56393 in January 1917.

Durrant wrote that the Cooke works built 70 of these little tanks and intended them for Poland. Most of the first batch wound up on the Sarakamish-Erzerum narrow gauge line, pulling small tenders and dubbed the "Amerikan" class.
