Calhoun Brick & Clay 0-4-0 "Switcher" Locomotives in the USA

Class Details by Steve Llanso of Sweat House Media

Class 2 (Locobase 15027)

Data from Roy V Wright (Ed.) 1912 Locomotive Cyclopedia of American Practice, Sixth Edition (New York: Simmons-Boardman Publishing Company, 1912), p. 152.

Located in Calhoun County, Ill, the CC&B exploited a coal outcropping through a drift mine. Originally incorporated before 1882 as the Thomas Coal Company, the corporate name of CC&B only applied between 1907 and 1911.

To take men in and haul coal out, they needed a low-profile mine locomotive. Locobase hasn't determined the track gauge.
