Wellman Iron & Steel 0-4-0 "Switcher" Locomotives in the USA

Class Details by Steve Llanso of Sweat House Media

Class 6 (Locobase 11181)

Data from Exhibit of Locomotives by the Baldwin Locomotive Works (Philadelphia: J B Lippincott, 1893), pp. 54-57. See also DeGolyer, Volume 18, p. 111. Works numbers were 13009 in October 1892 and 13352 in April 1893.

Even among 30-inchers (the gauge, not the locomotives), this was a small engine, one of the smallest in Locobase. #7 was shown at the 1893 Columbian Exhibition.

The boiler was made by the company to whom it was delivered (or perhaps assigned for purposes of display).

Connelly's list tells us that both were sold, #6 to Tidewater Steel Company of Chester, Pa; it was later sold to Southern Iron & Equipment. #7 went to Hemenway & Brown, which delivered it to Chile.
