In 1899 the Maunalei Sugar Company turned the small fishing village of Keomuku into a thriving sugar plantation on the island of Lanai, Hawaii. In 1901 a plague hit the village and caused the operations to be closed. Today Keomuku is abandoned and most all of the structures are gone. However, a steam locomotive, several cane cars, and tracks remain.
Note: I had once been told that this locomotive had been moved to a location in or near Puunene, Maui. However, apparently that is false.
