Data from DeGolyer, Volume 27, p. 1. See also W R Hicks, "A Short History of the Emmitsburg Railroad", Emmitsburg Area Historical Society, [], last accessed 7 June 2011. Works number was 24104 in April 1904.
Hicks tells us that Emmitsburg, Maryland lay on the route to Pittsburgh. Incorporated in 1868, the railroad followed a relatively easy path over the 7.3 miles between Emmitsburg and Rocky Ridge. The ERR struggled from the time it opened in 1875 and by 1890 was reorganized with fresh blood and money. Hicks reports that the iron rails originally laid were replaced with 10-lb steel rail; in fact, another article on the site gives the weight as 60 lb/yard, a much more likely figure.
The ERR gave the general manager permission to dispose of the 2 on 27 December 1912. Gene Connelly records the engine as being sold to the East Berlin Railway in February 1916.
