Class 1/H-4 (Locobase 8152)

Data from 1944 Northern Pacific Locomotive Diagram book supplied in May 2005 by Allen Stanley from his extensive Rail Data Exchange. Works number was 2210 in June 1889.

The locomotive diagram shows a dock switcher with a long boiler on which little sand domes flanked a taller steam dome -- all of them shaped like milk cans. It seems to have been intended for bi-directional operation.

The SW&T sold the 1 to locomotive rebuilder/reseller Southern Iron & Equipment in 1901. SI&E sold it to the Northern Pacific in October 1903.

NB: The direct heating surface (including the firebox heating surface) is an estimate calculated by subtracting the calculated tube heating surface from the reported total evaporative heating surface.
