Class Details by Steve Llanso of Sweat House Media

Class 6 (Locobase 12795)

Data from Baldwin Locomotive Works Specification for Engines as digitized by the DeGolyer Library of Southern Methodist University Volume 27, p 283. Works number was 25710 in May 1905.

Castle & Cooke's Ewa Plantation received this typical sugar saddle tank through W G Irwin, a well-known broker. The engine's remit was challenging: It had to scale grades of between 2 1/2 and 3% and negotiate curves between 16 and 26 degrees radius, sometimes in an S layout. The cane cars weighed between 2,800 and 3,000 lb empty (1,270-1,361 kg) and carried 3 1/2 to 5 tons when loaded.
