Data from DeGolyer, Volume 8, p. 97. See also Fond du Lac, Amboy & Peoria Railroad in George Woodman Hilton, American Narrow-Gauge Railroads (Stanford University Press, 1990), p. 557. Baldwin works number was 4132 in August 1877.
Another in a string of small Moguls built with the same boiler and firebox, this engine was built for stock with the longer-stroke cylinders, but a slightly narrower grate. The FdLA&P bought it from the stock track in June 1880.
The FdLA&P arose from a grandiose dream to connect the Inland Rivers system available at Peoria with access to the Great Lakes and St Lawrence River at Fond du Lac, Wisconsin. But it never built more than the 30 miles (48 km) from Fond du Lac to Iron Ridge, where it connected with the Chicago, Milwaukee & St Paul. Financial misdeeds stopped all development and the Milwaukee Road soon bought the Fond du Lac branch and converted it to standard gauge in May 1884.
