Dare Lumber 2-6-0 "Mogul" Locomotives in the USA

Class Details by Steve Llanso of Sweat House Media

Class 2 (Locobase 13470)

Data from Baldwin Locomotive Works Specification for Engines as digitized by the DeGolyer Library of Southern Methodist University, Volume 32, p. 247. See also Suzanne Tate, Logs & moonshine: tales of Buffalo City, Issue 3, (Nags Head, NC: Nags Head Art, Inc, 2000), p. 30. Works number was 32833 in June 1908.

The 2 was the "big one" of the 3 "lokies" that served the DLC in the forests near its Elizabeth City, NC headquarters; Locobase supposes the other two were Shays. According to Tate, "Railroad spurs in the woods connected to the main track that came through Buffalo City." When the small lokies brought the logs out to the main line, the 2 would take them to the "transfer", where they were lifted onto a barge.

The 2 was later sold to the Seligman Williams & Ball Logging Company.
