Data from DeGolyer, Volume 8, p. 65. See also Handbook of Texas Online, George C. Werner, "Galveston, Brazos and Colorado Railway," accessed April 12, 2016, [] and the UtahRails account of the U&PV at [], last accessed 12 April 2016. Baldwin works number was 4048 in February 1877.
This skinny gauge Mogul , one of several built to the same first went to a start-up that would never get very close to the Brazos River, let alone Colorado. The record doesn't indicate exactly why the GBC returned the Lota to Baldwin, but the Philadelphia builder quickly found a buyer in the Utah & Pleasant Valley.
The U&PV ordered the 3 in December 1879. Among the changed details was the addition of a snow plow on the pilot, doubtless reflecting the new railroad's struggles with snow that very month. By January 1888, the line now included 66 miles (106 km); the coal road's completion at Provo would come in October 1880 and the Denver & Rio Grande bought the line in early 1881.
