Kaul Lumber Company 2-6-0 "Mogul" Locomotives in the USA

Class Details by Steve Llanso of Sweat House Media

Class 17 (Locobase 15221)

Data from Baldwin Locomotive Works Specification for Engines as digitized by the DeGolyer Library of Southern Methodist University, Volume 64, p. 99. See also the history of Kaulton, Ala at Locobase 13122. Works number was 55413 in March 1922.

For some reason, the KLC specified that this typical logging Mogul have a boiler pressed to 200 psi. Combined with a relatively low adhesion weight, the 17 had a significantly lower factor of adhesion than most of its timber-harvesting counterparts.

Nevertheless, the 17 apparently remained in service for decades. It ended its days on the Gulf State Paper's rails. A note in the specs volume shows that it was scrapped on 6/6/1950.
