Class 2 (Locobase 12204)

Data from Baldwin Locomotive Works Specification for Engines as digitized by the DeGolyer Library of Southern Methodist University Volume 20, pp 66 and 143 Works numbers were 14909-14910 in June 1896.

The specifications on this switcher/transfer engine included the requirement to move the cylinders eight inches "further ahead of present position, so constructed Weight is estimated at 102,000 total with 90,000 on drivers." Locobase believes that spec meant to guarantee that at least 90,000 lb would rest on the drivers. Tonnage requirements cannot be described as onerous: 90,000 lb up a 2% grade.

The NWCR was reported by the Army Corps of Engineers in March 1893 to be building "one of the largest coal docks in the United States in Allonez Bay", an indentation in the Lake Superior shoreline near Superior, Wisconsin.

The 2 was rebuilt as an 0-6-0 and sold to the Pittsburg Coal Company of Wisconsin. Later owners included Guthrie & Company and Mahnomen Mining Company.
