Class Herald (Locobase 16254)

Data from Baldwin Locomotive Works Specification for Engines, as digitized by the DeGolyer Library of Southern Methodist University, Volume 10, p. 125. For the South Florida, see also Donald R. Hensley, Jr., "The South Florida Railroad", TAP LINES website at [link], last accessed 26 January 2017. Works number was 5435 in January 1881.

This is one of the smallest Moguls in Locobase as of early 2017. Its tiny boiler, tiny firebox (see the explanation of the estimated area below), tiny grate served the SFRR for four years before it was sold to the Orange Belt Railroad in 1885 as their #1.

NB: The direct heating surface was calculated by assuming a cubic firebox and adding up the calculated square areas of the front tubesheet, the two sides, and the crown sheet. It is an estimate, but one that gains credibility with several other Baldwin designs with exactly the same firebox (e.g. Locobase 12024) for which the area is known.
