White River 2-6-0 "Mogul" Locomotives in the USA

Class Details by Steve Llanso of Sweat House Media

Class 5 (Locobase 14106)

Data from Baldwin Locomotive Works Specification for Engines as digitized by the DeGolyer Library of Southern Methodist University Volume 47, p. 237.

The WRRR connected Bethel, Vermont with Rochester, which lay 19 miles distant. Running along the banks of the White River proved its downfall as repeated flooding was capped by the 1927 Great Flood, which required a complete reconstruction at a time when traffic was declining. The line closed in 1934.

The Mogul in this entry was of that size so useful to so many kinds of operators. When the WRRR closed, the Rock of Ages quarry line in Barre, Vt, bought the 5.
