Central Iron & Coal Company 2-6-2 "Prairie" Locomotives in the USA

Class Details by Steve Llanso of Sweat House Media

Class 12 (Locobase 13901)

Data from Baldwin Locomotive Works Specification for Engines as digitized by the DeGolyer Library of Southern Methodist University, Volume 41, p. 53. See also Locobase 7310 for a note on the use of convict labor on the TCI system. Works number was 38403 in September 1912.

Although derived from the same low-drivered Prairie design sold to the St Louis Water Works in 1910 (Locobase 13692), the 12 had a bigger grate. Its heating proportions retained the weird imbalance between a small firebox and grate and the much larger boiler.

Later worked for TCI (Tennessee Coal, Iron & Railroad) and was still on the road in 1942.
