Except for the use of oil and the consequent differences in the firebox, this small plantation locomotive was an exact duplicate of the Surry, Southampton & Sussex Prairies delivered to that eastern Virginia timber company in 19191-1920 (Locobase 11006).
By the time this locomotive arrived on Oahu in the Hawaiian Islands, its railway covered 30 miles (48 km). Its company community held 2,500 residents in several laborers camps. The settlement included, the plantation store, kindergarten, clubhouse, hospital and dispensary, and several outlying camps. Sixteen artesian wells supplied the cane fields with water and the company continued looking for more.
