Henderson-Waits 2-6-2 "Prairie" Locomotives in the USA

Class Details by Steve Llanso of Sweat House Media

Class 37 (Locobase 14704)

Data from Baldwin Locomotive Works Specification for Engines as digitized by the DeGolyer Library of Southern Methodist University Volume 62, pp. 355+. Works numbers were 52936 in January 1920 and 52984 in February.

Wood-burning logging Prairies weren't uncommon in the southeast. The specs for this pair also describe a typical working environment: "Rough track", "short grades of 6%" and "prevailing grades of 1% to 3%". Florida temperatures were acknowledged through the provision of a "large and roomy" cab with ventilators in the roof and large windows.

This pair served H-W and later Brown Florida Lumber.
