Moore Timber 2-6-2 "Prairie" Locomotives in the USA

Class Details by Steve Llanso of Sweat House Media

Class 5 (Locobase 13949)

Data from Baldwin Locomotive Works Specification for Engines as digitized by the DeGolyer Library of Southern Methodist University Volume 43, p. 249 and 45, p. 34.. works numbers were 38627 in November 1912 and 40943 in November 1913.

These were typical wood-burning logging Prairies fitted with 13" diameter Radley & Hunter stacks, whose spark-arresting efficiency was explicitly required to have "special attention." Also indicative of the less-than-mainline operating conditions was the provision that "Plenty of play to be allowed for spring hangers and equalizers, on account of rough track. Equalizing beams to have oil holes for pins at bearings, pins of ample size, case hardened."
