Vredenburgh Saw Mill Company 2-8-0 "Consolidation" Locomotives in the USA

Class Details by Steve Llanso of Sweat House Media

Class 12 (Locobase 14972)

Data from Baldwin Locomotive Works Specification for Engines as digitized by the DeGolyer Library of Southern Methodist University Volume 65, pp. 317+. Works number was 54431 in January 1921.

Seven years after this Alabama sawmill purchased a Ten-wheeler from Baldwin (Locobase 14055), it bought this somewhat larger logging Consolidation from Eddystone. As its dimensions suggest, the 12's main role was straight freight service on the Georgia, Florida & Alabama Railroad. It still had to contend with 58 lb/yard (29 kg/metre) rail and curves as tight as 25 degrees (radii of 231 feet/70.4 metres).
