Ozan-Graysonia Lumber Company 2-8-2 "Mikado" Locomotives in the USA

Class Details by Steve Llanso of Sweat House Media

Class N E Peters (Locobase 13928)

Data from Baldwin Locomotive Works Specification for Engines as digitized by the DeGolyer Library of Southern Methodist University, Volume 41, p. 188 and Volume 52, p. 393. Works number was 43056 in March 1916.

Ozan ordered two locomotives to these specs at the same time. One went to the Ozan's Prescott & Northwestern as their 17; see Locobase 13927. As noted in that entry, the specs highlighted the arduous demands awaiting the engine: "Loco. is intended for the very hardest kind of service and the greatest care should be exercised in looking after the details of design and manufacture."

In 1924, the middle-sized Mike went to the Fundicion Morales in San Luis Potosi in Mexico. This road was almost immediately renamed Asarco Mexicana and was part of the American Smelting and Refining Company, the largest such company in Mexico at the time.
