Macon, Dublin & Savannah 4-4-0 "American" Locomotives in the USA

Class Details by Steve Llanso of Sweat House Media

Class 100 (Locobase 12573)

Data from DeGolyer, Volume 45, p.152. Works number was 33517 in June 1909.

Although the MD&S did not actually merge with the Seaboard Air Line until 1958, it was such a small line that it bought very few locomotives new. Still, it acquired this little Eight-wheeler from the builder itself.

The design put on very few airs. No superheater, balanced slide valves, inside link motion, narrow firebox. Then again, the MD&S promised only 1% grades and 6-degree curves, so this basic American would serve.
