Class Details by Steve Llanso of Sweat House Media

Class B-2 / D-9 (Locobase 6712)

Data from T, St L & W's 1911 and 1924 locomotive diagram books supplied in May 2005 by Allen Stanley from his extensive Rail Data Exchange. Works numberswere 1808 and 1810 in June 1887.

Early Clover Leaf Eight-wheelers that duplicated most of the dimensions of the B and B-1, but had taller drivers. Probably because of their greater speed potential, they remained in service long enough to be taken into the Nickel Plate and renumbered. These two did not outlast the jointure for long. Both were scrapped in July 1927.

Another note: the 1924 document records the original purchase price as $8,500 in 1887 dollars. Boiler horsepower is given as 709 HP, while the cylinders were credited with 866 HP.

Class B/B-1 // D-8/D-8a (Locobase 11128)

Data from T, St L & W's 1911 and 1924 locomotive diagram books supplied in May 2005 by Allen Stanley from his extensive Rail Data Exchange. Works numbers were 1802-1807, 1809, 1811-1814 in 1887.

These locomotives had fewer tubes and smaller drivers than the two B-2s delivered by the same Ocean State builder in the same year (Locobase 6712), but were otherwise identical. These locomotives were not taken into the Nickel Plate.
