Data from "Ten-Wheel Locomotive with Superheater, CStPM&O Railway", Railway and Engineering Review, Volume 45 (19 August 1905), p. 600. (Thanks to Chris Hohl for his 29 January 2026 email noting his use of the R&ER report; it led to Locobase's creation of a separate entry.) Works number was 30458 in March 1905.
Locobase 9709 describes in some detail Schenectady engineer Francis Cole's tube superheater variant as installed in a Soo Line Consolidation in 1905. This entry describes the very similar five-axle mixed-traffic engine Schenectady delivered to the Omaha Route in the same year. R&ER only vaguely gives the number of engines fitted with the system. Together with the saturated-boiler I-1s (Locobase 9343), the class totalled 66 locomotives.
However many of these early superheater engines there might have been, all later changed out the Cole in favor of Schmidt's more widely used variant; see Locobase 4857.
