Class Details by Steve Llanso of Sweat House Media

Class 1 (Locobase 14103)

Data from Baldwin Locomotive Works Specification for Engines as digitized by the DeGolyer Library of Southern Methodist University, Volume 29, p. 276. Works number was 30226 in February 1907.

This small Alabama shortline was headquartered at Hayneville, which lies between Selma and the state capital at Montgomery. Not long after the H&M opened, it bought this small Ten-wheeler. Its ambition to reach Montgomery thwarted by low revenues, the H&M only ever laid its 60 lb/yard (30 kg/metre) rail to Tyson just 9 miles (14.5 km) away. The road was declared insolvent in February 1917.

Upon the declaration of insolvency, the 2 was sold to locomotive rebuilder/reseller Georgia Car & Locomotive, who rebored the cylinders to a 16" (406 mm) diameter and sold it to John Elzie Justice. Although the JEJ Company rebushed the cylinders back to 15", it didn't retain the engine for long and sent it back to GC&L. GC&L found a buyer in August 1919 in Millville, Florida's Saint Andrews Bay Lumber Co as their 23
