Northern Adirondack 4-6-0 "Ten-Wheeler" Locomotives in the USA

Class Details by Steve Llanso of Sweat House Media

Class Mountaineer/F-X (Locobase 14566)

Data from Dimensions and Classifications of Locomotives of the NYC&HR et al, September 1905, p. 347. See also a history of the NY&O at [link] . This Ten-wheeler was delivered to the NA as a Batchellor cross-compound locomotive with a 19" diameter HP cylinder on the left and a 28" diameter LP cylinder on the right.

After substituting Northern New York for the NA on its tender in 1895, the 7 erased that short-lived name in 1897 and replaced it with New York & Ottawa. At that point, the 7 was simpled as shown in the specifications above.

After the New York Central absorbed the NY&O in 1905, it renumbered the 7 to 2199 and retired it in 1914.
