Class Details by Steve Llanso of Sweat House Media

Class 5 (Locobase 11720)

Data from Baldwin Locomotive Works Specification for Engines, 1890, as digitized by the DeGolyer Library of Southern Methodist University Vol 16, p. 176. Works number was 11795 in April 1891.

This small Ten-wheeler was originally purchased by the Huntsville, Belt Line & Monte Sano of Huntsville, Ala, a railway that couldn't afford to pay for it. It was instead delivered to the Natchez, MS-based NO & NW in November 1891.

5 served several lumber-company railroad in its long career. It was sold to the Tensas River Lumber Company of Moreau, Louisiana and later to the Wildsville, La firm of Baxter Lumber. In April 1916, Baxter sold the engine to engine rebuilder/reseller Southern Iron & Equipment, who sold it to Poplarville Saw Mill Company in December. In May 1919, the PSMC put it up for sale and found a Mississippi buyer in the Swift Lumber Company in April 1920. Later operators included Colmer-Green Lumber Company of Colgreen, MS and the Barnes-Creary Supply Company of Mobile, AL.
