South Buffalo 4-6-0 "Ten-Wheeler" Locomotives in the USA

Class Details by Steve Llanso of Sweat House Media

Class 8 (Locobase 12685)

Data from Baldwin Locomotive Works Specification for Engines as digitized by the DeGolyer Library of Southern Methodist University Vol 25, p.289. Works number was 22063 in April 1903.

Momentarily infatuated with the Vanderbilt boiler (see Locobases 4104 and 5257 entries for further comments on the stayless-firebox design), the South Buffalo bought this Ten-wheeler and added the two Consolidations shown in Locobase 12672 a month later. It's not clear whether the SB ever rebuilt this engine, which was retired in the mid-1920s.
