Harriman Lines 4-6-2 "Pacific" Locomotives in the USA

Class Details by Steve Llanso of Sweat House Media

Class Light Pacific P-141 (Locobase 5341)

See Locobase 5340 for the introduction to the Harriman Common Standard. Data from "Report of Committe on Power-Chicago, Rock Island & Pacific Railway-Descriptions of Standard Types of Locomotives," American Engineer and Railroad Journal, Volume 79 (March 1905), pp. 84-86. DeGolyer, Volume 30, p. 30 (among others).

The HCS Pacifics were relatively light engines and like the Atlantic, relatively small boilered.

Many were eventually superheated and fitted with Walschaerts outside valve gear.

See Locobase 5313 (Chicago & Alton), 4407 (Southern Pacific), and 4408 (Union Pacific) for examples of the HCS Pacific design.
