Class Details by Steve Llanso of Sweat House Media

Class Guaynabo (Locobase 14180)

Data from Baldwin Locomotive Works Specification for Engines as digitized by the DeGolyer Library of Southern Methodist University Vol 31, p. 13 and Vol 49, p. 71. See also Cesar J Ayala, American sugar kingdom: the plantation economy of the Spanish Caribbean 1898-1934 (University of North Carolina Press, 1999), p. 144. Works numbers were 31705 in September 1907 and 33594 in July 1909.

The Central Vannina was incorporated by Vannina Central Inc in 1911 to serve plantations and a mill in the Rio Piedras region of Puerto Rico. Linked by a 12 km (7.5 mile) line to Guaynabo, the mill was rated at startup as capable of processing 600 tons of cane per day. Along with the charter came a revocable permit to draw 200 litres (53 US gallons) per second from the Rio Piedras.

As metre-gauge radial tanks went, the Guaynabo was of middling size and power.
