Class Details by Steve Llanso of Sweat House Media

Class La Marias (Locobase 13442)

Data from Baldwin Locomotive Works Specification for Engines as digitized by the DeGolyer Library of Southern Methodist University Volume 32, p 274. Cesar Ayala, "From Sugar Plantations to Military Bases: The US Navy's Expropriations in Vieques, Puerto Rico, in 1940-45," Department of Sociology at UCLA at [link] (see another version at [link]). Works number was 32933 in August 1908.

At the same time that the Playa Grande and Resolucion were ordered by Ernest Wiener for the Benitez Sugar interest (Locobase 13441), La Marias went to another sugar "central". The CA was located on the western end of the island of Vieques off the eastern coast of Puerto Rico. According to a study of sugar plantations expropriated by the US Navy for bombardment and bombing practice in 1941, the CA, like the other three centrales, produced only a modest amount of sugar each year. As far as the authors could determine, the CA opened in 1907 and closed in 1910.
