Class Playa Grande (Locobase 13441)

Data from Baldwin Locomotive Works Specification for Engines as digitized by the DeGolyer Library of Southern Methodist University Volume 32, p 91 and Vol 54, p. 274. See also Marie Cruz Soto, PhD "Inhabiting Isla Nena, 1514--2003: Island narrations, imperial dramas and Vieques, Puerto Rico (University of Michigan dissertation, 2008), esp pp. 171 et seq. Works numbers were 32931-32932 in August 1908, 33271 in March 1909, and 44272 in October 1916.

In addition to the Playa Grande, the Resolucion, Punta Arenas, and Pepin served the sugar plantation railways of Jose Benitez Guzman in Puerto Rico. Benitez Guzman had assembled a large sugar holding on Vieques, a small island to Puerto Rico's southeast. His heirs continued the expansion in the 20th century and eventually came to own 44% of the land on Vieques.
