Data from Baldwin Locomotive Works Specification for Engines as digitized by the DeGolyer Library of Southern Methodist University, Vol 49, p. 120. See also Centeno, Loynaz y Roncajolo: Ingenieros-arquitectos del Ferrocarril del Táchira, 1904-1926" at [], last accessed 29 August 2013. Works numbers were 40537-40538 in September 1913.
Located south and west of Lake Maracaibo, the Tachira was the other railway promoted by French-born Benito Roncajolo, whose GFC de la Ceiba is profiled in Locobase 15076. Of the two railways, this one was by far the longer, covering about 185 km (114.9 miles) in a northerly direction from Tachira to Encontrados.
The Tachira took delivery of these two wood-burning Prairie tanks, naming them Encontador and Maracaibo. The specs outlined challenges such as maximum grades of 2.7%, around curves of 100 metres/328 feet radii (17 1/2 degree curvature), on rails weighing 30, 40 and 50 lb/yard (15, 20, 25 kg/metre).
