2-8-2 Steam Locomotives in Brazil

Parana-Santa Catarina

Class Details by Steve Llanso of Sweat House Media

Class 670 (Locobase 21356)

Data from "Locomotiva "Mikado", Diagram 8-22-11[?], prepared 20 November for Department DA3 Oficinas, Escritorio Tecnico. Works numbers were 2041-2050 in 1950.

The Brazil Railway ordered this ten-engine batch of fast freight locomotivs for the metre gauge of the EF do Parana-Santa Catarina. The PSC rated the design's maximum speed at 70 kph (43.5 mph). Locobase wonders if the grate's area reflected its Belgian origins more than the inherent heat available in lower-calorie Brazilian coal. Other than the diagram, Locobase can find no reference to this class in his research.
