The first USA 4-2-2 was an 1872 rebuild of a 1863 Cooke 4-2-4. It was used
on the Central Pacific Railroad. The wheel arrangement was quite rare in the
USA and was quickly replaced by the Atlantic 4-4-2 configuration.
