Exhibited at the Exposition, this design was meant to satisfy requirements that the locomotive conquer 1.8-2% grades and 350-metre radius curves with 190 tons (19 wagons of 10 tons each) at 30-35 km/h (18.6-21.7 mph). Both the cylinders and the valve gear were inside the frames and drove through a cranked middle axle.
Taillard commented that the engine showed itself equal to the best English machines. Well-built, sober in its lines. However, the author also comments that the locomotive's drivers are of a diameter that don't accord with the service demanded by heavy trains and that the railway would at some point replace them with 8-coupled locomotives.
