Data from Baldwin Locomotive Works Specification for Engines as digitized by the DeGolyer Library of Southern Methodist University Vol 23, p.178 and Vol 44, p. . Works numbers were 18457 in December 1900 and 35981 in January 1911.
This railway broke ground in 1899 to run 60 km (37 miles) from San Miguel to Areas. A currently popular metre-gauge wood-burning Mogul design had already been supplied to several Brazilian roads, so it apparently seemed a logical choice for this agricultural road. The region through which the line traveled boasted coffee, tobacco, and cattle products.
By 1908, the T de N had 160 miles under construction with 80 miles completed. Three years later, the T de N returned to the Philadelphia builder to buy a sister to the earlier engine. The new locomotive bore the name Araujo Pinho.
