Data from [], last accessed 19 January 2017, (First viewed August 2002) gives the price per engine as 29,000 Swiss francs. See also "Report on Locomotives for the St. Gothard [sic] Railway", The Engineer, Volume 54 (17 November 1882), pp. 368-371. Works numbers 236 & 231, respectively.
The design had the Brownian double-lever drive. The main rod moved the upper end of a rocking link that pivoted on a point between the axles. As the upper point rocked one way, the lower point moved a rod in the opposite direction to drive the rear axle. The advantage seems to have lay in raising the cylinders out of the way without having to locate them inside.
The smallest of the three classes of 0-4-0 tank engines, these may have been tunnel goats, which would explain their early retirement in 1890. Former #11 went on to work as a industrial locomotive for von Roll GmBH. 12 operated as a stationary engine in 1889.

These were the first locomotives to run on the Gotthard, handling passenger traffic in the Tessin valley. They ran until 1912.
[Tube diameter is estimated, calculated from (total heating surface minus firebox heating surface) divided by (tube number times length).]

Although delivering the same power as the earlier tank engines, these had smaller boilers. They gave more than 30 years of service before being retired in 1915.
