Data from Francis Whishaw, Railroads of Great Britain and Ireland, London: John Weale, 1842, pp. 468-469. Works numbers were 48-49, 57 in 1839.
Express and Fury had 13" diameter cylinders, Spitfire had 14" cylinders (which yielded 2,300 lb tractive effort). Whishaw reported that these locomotives -- Express, Fury, and Spitfire -- were averaging 25.43 mph in September 1839. Gross train weights averaged 40 tons.
Spitfire was either delivered originally to the Belfast & Ballymena Railway as their first locomotive or later sold by the Ulster Railway to the B&B.
