Data from East Essex Locomotive Preservation Society website ([], last accessed 3 April 2010). Works number was 2613.
Acuriosity in its origins and layout, this locomotive originally entered production bound for the narrow-gauge, coal-field railways of Turkey. When Great Britain entered World War II, however, 2613 was commandeered for use as a shunting engine and converted to standard gauge. The outside Walschaerts gear, by all outward appearances quite neatly packaged, remained.
The Admiralty stores site at Stoke on Trent was its home and the locomotive remained when the site was transformed into the Brookfield Foundry after World War Two. After its retirement in 1961, Brookfield was rescued by Richard Moore and Hugh Lewis.
Years of museum-road operation on the Big Pit (1986-1993) and Mangapps Farm Railway followed. By 2009, Brookfield was idle awaiting a major restoration.
