Data from "Express Locomotive for the Great Indian Peninsula Ry", Locomotive Magazine, Volume XXVII [27] (15 July 1921), p. 169. Works numbers were 3367-3370
Designed by Messrs Robert White & Partners, Consulting Engineers, Westminster, this quartet of Ten-wheelers included "Hero", a memorial locomotives honoring the GIPR employees lost inthe Great War. LM described the design as a standard GIP broad gauge express passenger engine with piston valves and Belpaire firebox. The latter was delivered with a flat frame burner, but could be converted for coal firing.
Although similar to other HPS engines, this batch showed less superheater area from its Robinson design and the inside-admission piston valves were of the Robinson patent variety. .
