The site noted that the class was built specifically to conquer the difficult grades on the Thurgau line. Rated at a maximum speed of 60 km/h (36 mph) and a tonnage rating of 200 tons up a 2% grade, these compact, low-drivered Prairie tanks served for decades.
1, 2, and 4 were scrapped, but 3 (SLM works number 2263) was somehow spared long enough to be restored beginning in 1992. She received a new boiler, and new cylinders. As of 2000, a boiler inspection of #3 cleared her to operate on all Swiss railway lines.
