Amid the batches of German-built Moguls for the metre gauge in Chile, Lima, Ohio's builder managed to supply two. 40 served the DOP during the construction of the 102 km section between Cabildo and Limahuida as part of the Red Norte (Northern Railway) program begun in 1888 and built in sections until 1914.
41--named Nahuelbuta--duplicated the 1905 design for Spencer & Waters on behalf of the Cia Agricola e Industrial Nueva Italia. This new company planned to build a line between Los Sauces and Capitan Pastene, but after a state takeover of that line that resulted in regauging the AINI to 600 mm, the 41 kept the name and joined the 40 in serving the DOP.
Martin Coombs reconstructed the Lima duo's service for the DOP 1910-1914. He noted that the government's DOP apparently commandeered locomotives from companies such as the FC de Elqui "on a whim" and shows the 40-41 (later renumbered by the Red Norte 3040-3041) at work into the 1920s. By 1942 neither locomotive appeared on Red Norte or Red Sur lists.
