Class OHE 84 201 (Locobase 2462)

Data from H. Le Fleming in Ransome-Wallis (1959); and "OHE 84 201" in Wikipedia at [], last accessed 18 January 2026/ Works number was 2809 in 1952.

Krauss-Helmholz truck on this relatively small freight tank engine as on most German engines. Tonnage ratings for this engine were 500 tons at 50 mph (80.5 kph) on level track and 25 mph (40 kph) for the same tonnage on a 1% grade; max permissible was set at 85 kph (52.8 mph). Carried in an 80 mm (3.15") thick bar frame, its leading and trailing axles each sat in a combined frame together with its adjacent coupled axle.

Although the design has the 84-series numbering, it was in fact used in an industrial setting.

Wikipedia (in German, translated by Google) describes a "locomotive ...designed to haul trailing loads of 1,200 tons with good cornering capabilities at higher speeds and to have favorable consumption figures in terms of weight, heating surface, fuel and water capacity, and power output."

But then adds:

"No information is available regarding the locomotive's operation, performance, or reliability." Yet goes on to note the train could run at 85 kph in both directions and handled passenger trains.

Krupp welded much of the locomotive other than the boiler barrel.
