Diagrammes des machines SACM construites a GRAFENSTADEN (October 2007).
Designed by Borsig and built to the standard specification (Musterblatt) III0-4f, these radial tanks were essentially an enlargement of the T7 six-coupleds (see Locobase 6364) and were used in the same short-haul heavy freight service. Their boilers and grate were both larger, but their cylinder dimensions and tanks were virtually identical. The trailing axle used an Adams design and the locomotive also supported passenger traffic as well.
In 1925, the DRG grouped 231 in the BauReihe 90 (90 001-231). Lindecke reports a bit of sloppiness in class assignments with some T9 2 2-6-0Ts being given BR 90 designations, while some T9 1s were mistakenly categorized as BR 91s. Whle most of the T9 1s had been retired by 1930, others, especially those in Poland and from private railways later joined the DRG stud and some remained in service until 1953.
