It's somewhat surprising that as many as 46 of this class remained in service so late, but after the dissolution of the Austro-Hungarian Empire in 1918, 10 were transferred to Romania and 14 to Yugoslavia while 22 remained in Hungary.
P[eter] M[ichael] Kalla-Bishop, Hungarian notes the low top speed of 34 mph, "which even in Hungary was rather slow for a principal passenger train locomotive". The fault may have lay in a short wheelbase that induced swaying at even moderate speeds. In 1880, 6 had their driving wheelbase increased to 8' 2 1/2", which cut into firebox heating surface and grate area but allowed a top speed of 43 mph. These were the class 240, which operated on the Szabadka branch line until 5 were sent over to Yugoslavia in 1918.
