Additional info from Tutto Treno rivista's website page [] (visited 4 February 2006), which has elevation drawings of every Ferro Strato locomotive and details on when and how many were built. The drawing shows a typical American-type Eight-wheeler of the time with firebox over the driving axles and large steam dome over the front driving axle. The valve gear, which lay inside the frame, operated the outside-mounted slide valves through rocking levers.
1703, 1706, 1709, 1711, 1713, 1715 (Gruppo 540 FS 2) were built with a smaller boiler with less heating surface area. They had the same wheelbases but weighed less
Thirteen more 545 (FS 2) were delivered in 1890-1891 were larger, but had similar external dimensions and appearance.
