4-6-4 Steam Locomotives in Mexico

Nacional de Mexico

The National Railway of Mexico bought ten Hudsons from the American Locomotive Company in 1937. They were designated Class NR-1 and assigned road numbers 2700 through 2709. These locomotives had 25 x 28 cylinders, 73" drvers, a boiler pressure of 200 psi, a tractive effort of 40,700 lbs and weighed 292,000 pounds. There is one survivng Class NR-1 Hudson, number 2708, on display in the City Park in Aguascalientes, Aguascalientes.

Class NR-1 (Locobase 11950)

Data from NdeM 1950 Locomotive Diagrams Standard Gauge supplied in December 2010 by Allen Stanley. See also the 10 July 2010 blog post at [] by Matfas Lozano Dfaz de León on La Burrita, the one NR-1 to have been preserved.

These Hudsons vied with the Maine Central D-class 4-6-4s described in Locobase 1044 for the title of lightest of the arrangement on a North American railroad. But they suited NdeM practice quite well.
